What is snow?

It snowed today in Vancouver. A whole 2 cm. This would not cause much trouble on the Prairies, but in The Van, it’s close to a catastrophe. Why? Because of the hills my friend. It’s all because of the hills. You can’t get up them, and going down them might kill someone. City buses didn’t go down Granville Street this morning because they wouldn’t have been able to stop. The first 25 minutes of the 6 o’clock newscast were dedicated to 2 cm of snow. Amazing. There were huge lineups at tire shops for snow tires. People were slipping and sliding everywhere. The roads were slush. And I just smiled all the way to school and back. Snow. Wonderful snow. I love the stuff. Waking up this morning to a film of sparkling white made me feel as if I was in Saskatchewan. With one difference. I used my umbrella to keep the snow away. Other people were doing it, so I figured I might as well, too. Why not? Snow and umbrellas? A weird but necessary combination.

  1. That looks wonderful! It would be nice to have snow here. It gets cold, and there’s no indoor heating, but no snow. God knew what he was doing when he made Saskatchewan! 🙂 Thanks for the taste of home, hon.
