And a stressful 9 days those will be. Oh my word, I have never felt so unprepared before. Ever. I think part of it is because I’m holding myself up to a new standard, compared to last year, and part of it is because my Spanish songs just won’t get learned. That part is completely my fault. But whatever. I’ll just do my best. And cram like crazy for the next week.
I decided long ago that I’m not teaching 12 year olds to sing for the rest of my life. That fact was made even more apparent to me when I met my student – a 5 year old. He showed me how he could jump and make various animal sounds. It was terribly cute, but when you have parents paying for a half hour lesson and they’re sitting there watching, you’ve got to get the kid to stop barking like a dog and sing. But one of my students makes up for it. She goes to culinary school out here and she brings me treats every week! Last week was banana bread (SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good) and today, sugar cookies! She’s the sweetest!
My new favorite things are these free dailies that have just been started out here. They’re mini-newspapers. My favorite is the Metro – it has the right mix of everything, and actual articles (the others only have 4 or 5 lines tops about a subject). But my favorite thing about it is that it has a crossword. A daily crossword. I love it! And I don’t have to BUY a newspaper. This is the best thing ever. Yes, I know I need to get a life. 😉
And on that note I’m going to go and do today’s crossword. And probably do some more memorizing…
