I am not lucky. Never have been. Never will be.
I am unlucky with vehicles; I’m almost always having some sort of car trouble. I am unlucky in love. I always make an ass of myself at the most inopportune moments. Whenever I wish for something to happen, the exact opposite occurs. I just never seem to be in the right place at the right time.
Oprah has this bogus belief that “luck is preparation meeting opportunity.” BAH!! I don’t believe in all that ‘make your own luck’ stuff. ‘If you work hard enough, you’re sure to succeed!’ Yeah right.
I guess I believe that what is meant to happen will happen, whether you work your ass off or not.
Why all this talk about luck? Well, I lost $150 today.
Well, not literally. It wasn’t my own $150.
I lost our work hockey pool by ONE POINT. Going into the final weekend of the NHL regular season, I was up 3 points. Then came yesterday. I figured I would be okay. I had Evgeni Malkin, Sergei Gonchar, Marian Gaborik, Joe Thornton – a bunch of snipers – playing. I figured I’d get at least a point or two to help me clinch my title.
Guess how many points I got? NONE. ZIP. ZILCH. Z-E-R-O.
Talking to the guy that came from behind to beat me today, he said, “I pulled a horseshoe out of my ass on that one.” No kidding.
It’s yet another example of my lack of luck.
I really hope it’ll reverse itself one of these days. I could really use some good luck with a few things right now…
